When tickets, registrations, apparel, or other items have limited availability, CrowdChange temporarily reserves them when they are added to a user’s cart. This gives the user time to complete checkout without the items being purchased by someone else.
How item reservations work
When a user adds an item with a quantity limit to their cart:
-
CrowdChange confirms that the requested quantity is still available.
-
The items are reserved for 15 minutes and cannot be selected by another user during this time.
-
A countdown timer shows how much time remains to complete the purchase.
The timer begins when the first limited-quantity item is added to the cart. Adding other items does not restart or extend the timer.
Extending the checkout time
When 30 seconds remain, the user will be asked whether they would like more time. If they choose to continue, the reservation will be extended by five minutes.
What happens when time expires
If the user does not complete their purchase or extend the reservation before the timer expires:
-
The reserved items are removed from their cart.
-
The items become available for other users to purchase.
-
A message lets the user know that their reservation has expired.
The user can return to the item selection page and add the items again if they are still available.
Where the timer appears
On desktop devices, the timer appears near the top of the order summary.
On mobile devices, the timer appears near the top of the page and remains visible as the user scrolls.
Does this feature need to be enabled?
No additional setup is required. Timed checkout and item reservations are automatically applied whenever a quantity limit has been configured for an item or one of its variations.
